New Chair elected

David Dent was elected the new Chair of the Chamber of Commerce at the recent AGM held on 7th march at College Farm Thompson.

David trained as an agricultural scientist, has invented technologies, established companies and commercialized a range of products including a herbicide adjuvant, a biopesticide for locust control, a diagnostic kit for airline fuel fungus and Founded the company Azotic Technologies Ltd that has commercialised a natural nitrogen-fixing bacteria that substitutes for nitrogen fertilizer.

A former MD of an intergovernmental UN-level organization (CABI Bioscience), David has a wealth of experience managing international science-based and commercial projects, establishing, raising funds for, and working in spin-out companies, as well advising governments and business on science, technology and innovation.

Inventor of the rounding-up of card payment transactions for charity and Founder of the Pennies Foundation which generates around £1 million annually for UK charities, David is Chair of two Government Grant Committees, a visiting Professor at the University of Surrey Business School, a Special Advisor to the UK’s Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, and through his consultancy company Dent Associates Ltd has recently been appointed as the Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence at UEA.
